Green Tea Extract - The Many Benefits of Green Tea

With more and more people looking to increase their health and vitality through the use of herbs and vitamins, there are an amazing amount of products and supplements out there, and it is hard to know what direction to go in. I've found one substance that can help support a better life, and better health, and that is green tea extract.
Green tea has been used in China for thousands of years in traditional Chinese medicine to treat anything from aches and pains to stomach problems, and even depression. It is commonly found as dried leaves, tea bags, capsules and extract. The important thing about green tea is that the leaves are steamed, versus being fermented like in black and oolong teas. This allows all the crucial components to remain essentially intact.
The healthy benefits of green tea come from the polyphenols contained in the leaf. Polyphenols seem to have a strong antioxidant effect that neutralizes free radicals to help decrease the cell and tissue damage they can cause. This family of chemicals may have anticancer properties, as well.
But let me give you some real-world examples of how green tea extract can help you attain a healthier lifestyle:
Weight loss
Studies have shown that green tea extract may promote weight loss by thermogenesis, which is a fancy word for "heat production". Green tea can help speed up your metabolism, thus leading to an increase in core body temperature, and the burning of more calories. It can also decrease the absorption of fat by disrupting the fat digesting enzymes.
Skin Protection
When applied topically to the skin, green tea may act to protect skin cells from the harmful effects of the sun. Unlike most of the sunscreens available, green tea has the ability to protect skin cells from the damage of UV rays by reactivating dying skin cells.
Cardiovascular Protection
Green tea extract has been shown, in some studies, to help protect the heart and blood vessels. It can help decrease the risk of strokes, has had favorable effects on hypertension, and LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels, and may help treat atherosclerosis, or "hardening of the arteries".
Cancer Protection
When it comes to cancer, green tea can help in a few different ways, but first, with the prevention of cancers, including breast, cervical, prostate, liver, digestive system, and even with some types of leukemia. For those with cancer, it has been noted in some studies to slow or even prevent the progression of some types of cancer. It also can help those in cancer treatment to maintain better white blood cell counts.
Anti Aging
Everyone has heard about free radicals these days, those pesky atoms that go stealing electrons from normal cells, thus causing cell damage. Green tea extract contains a powerful anti oxidant to neutralize those free radicals, and thus slow down the aging process.
As you can see, the benefits of green tea are many. These are only a few, and there are sure to be more discovered in the future. But you don't have to go drinking gallons of green tea to take a step forward for you health. If you would like to see some products that not only contain green tea extract, but other ingredients that work in synergy together for optimal health, check out my website for more details.
