My Style Obsession, My Style Icon

图片
I’m not sure when it started exactly, but I think it was around 9 years ago when I fell in love with the iconic brand that is known simply as “Chanel“.  It’s interesting, really, why people fall in love with the brands they do — there is no rhyme or reason for it.  To me, Chanel is classy, timeless, and stylish all in one – an almost impossible combination and one that I hope to emulate daily — even without a designer label.  Chanel appeals to the eternal feminist in me, subscribing to my idea that clothes and accessories should accentuate a woman’s best features and not detract from them. Around the same time, I discovered French actress Audrey Tautou while watching what is now one of my all-time-favorite movies, Amélie .  Tautou quickly became my style icon, I love the way she can wear even the most simple ensembles and make them look like a million bucks.  Remniscent of another famous Audrey, she carries herself with incredible a...

Bedtime stories

图片
How is it that it's been just three days since my vacation and already I am feel sleep deprived? Clearly, I have a problem. Clearly, this problem is serious since it was not remedied by a whole week of sleeping in until past 11 a.m. Though, thinking about this issue in the wee small hours of the morning, I realized that perhaps my problem is simply motivation. Because, well, if any of these women were in my bed I'd have no problem crawling under the covers. Of course, whether we'd sleep or not is entirely another matter. Hmm, perhaps this is the wrong kind of motivation after all. Wrong but delicious. Famke Janssen Audrey Tautou Angelina Jolie

Coco Before Chanel (Coco avant Chanel) – Trailer

图片
A little girl who is sent with her sister to an orphanage in the heart of France, who waits in vain every Sunday for her father to come for her. A cabaret performer with a weak voice who sings to an audience of drunken soldiers. A humble seamstress, who stitches hems at the back of a provincial tailor’s shop. A young, skinny courtesan, to whom protector Etienne Balsan offers a safe haven, amongst the idle and decadent. A woman in love who knows she will never be anyone’s wife, refusing marriage even to Boy Capel, the man who returned her love. A rebel who finds the conventions of her time oppressive, and instead dresses in her lovers’ clothes. This is the story of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, who begins her life as a headstrong orphan, and through an extraordinary journey becomes the legendary couturier who embodied the modern woman and became a timeless symbol of success, freedom and style. Due out on the 31st July.

Audrey Tautou’s chin-length bob with soft curls gives her a gorgeous retro look

图片
Audrey Tautou 's chin-length bob with soft curls gives her a gorgeous retro look. Dime-size the amount of styling lotion on the damp hair and then blow dry the 1-inch sections using a vent brush. Slightly lift at the root and smooth the length straight. Now twist a 1-inch section before covering it with a medium curling iron, hold the hair for some time to get it set and release it. Curl face-framing sections far from the face and alternate the curl direction on sides and back. Use shine serum on the fingers and apply it on the hair to break up curl.

Audrey Tautou to star in LA DELICATESSE

图片
While she may not take the biggest acting stretches ever, is there anyone who does romance quite like actress Audrey Tautou ? Variety  is reporting that the always-wonderful thespian has joined the cast of the upcoming David and Stephane Foenkinos film, LA DELICATESSE. She’ll be joined by Francois Damiens in the film, penned by the latter and based off a novel penned by the former, which follows “a Swedish man (Damiens) who falls for a young office co-worker, played by Tautou. Still mourning the death three years before of her husband in an accident, but delicately courted by the Swede, she gradually reawakens to life and falls in love again.” The film should start shooting in Paris in March, with a 2012 release likely, and while I’m not familiar with the Brothers Foenkinos and their canon, I do absolutely love Tautou, and this film sounds right in her wheel house. She’s a wonderfully talented actress, and hopefully this film wil...

Audrey Tautou As Coco Chanel

图片
Now this is an example of inspired casting: Audrey Tautou, the modern-day gamine who charmed audiences as Amelie, will be portraying the early years of quintessential fashion icon Coco Chanel in the forthcoming biopic Coco Before Chanel. Like Coco, Audrey Tautou is very pretty, very chic, and very, very French. What’s not to love? I’m particularly excited after glimpsing this official poster for the film: Simply stunning. Looks like this is going to be the new film for fashionistas to obsess over. Carrie Bradshaw who?

Loves Me, Loves Me Not (Cert 12A)

The delectable Audrey Tautou here gives us the darker side of the role she played in her last hit, Amelie. In the first half of this film, we see a romantic relationship between a cute, lovelorn art student (Tautou) and a callous, married cardiologist (Samuel Le Bihan) from the woman's point of view. It's routine romantic drama, with the man coming out of it badly. Halfway through the picture, we go back and see the same events from the man's standpoint. The two views are startlingly dissimilar, and the film turns from a romantic drama into a psychological thriller. It also turns the leading female into a very sick puppy indeed. And, instead of making us sorry for her and building on our emotional investment in her, the second half revels in turning her into a modern equivalent of Glenn Close's slasher in Fatal Attraction. This might not matter if writer director Laetitia Colombani was up to the demands of making a hardedged psychological thriller, but she nev...

Chic encore!

Since Carla Bruni-Sarkozy swept on to the world stage in Dior, France has been reinstated as global leader of all things cool. From fashion to film, the French are once more the flavour du jour. Lucie Greene takes a look at the crème de la crème Oh la Carla! Once upon a time France was simply synonymous with style – the language, the ladies, the fashion labels. From Christian Dior to Christian Louboutin, the French have historically done chic brilliantly – if a culture can ooze charm, theirs did. But in recent years the je ne sais quoi faded and the nation simply lost its va-va-voom. Maybe it was the competition from our 1990s Brit-cool or the ascendancy of all things brash, bling and very un-Français – who knows? And, quite frankly, in 2009 who cares, because France is back! In the past 12 months it has been reinstated as global leader of all things hot, and the fashion pack can’t get enough of it. Following behind the kitten heels of First Lady Carla Bruni Sarkozy...
